Zakopane DAY 1 of hiking through the Tatras from Zakopane. The Tatra National Park is amazing. They have many trails all clearly marked and well maintained. Albeit they are strenuous hikes. I bought my ticket for the famous cable car the day before. It's important to buy the ticket ahead of time as the lines to buy a ticket the day of are crazy long. I also bought a good map which was indispensable in planning out the days hikes. It was all in Polish, but I made do as all the place names were in Polish anyway. So what if I couldn't read what the posted warnings were on some parts of the trails! The map also gives you pretty accurate estimations of how long different sections of the hikes will take to walk.
